Proving his worth as a national treasure, Timothy Spall stars here as Peter Riordan, a dull bank worker forced into early retirement. Deciding to do something spontaneous for once in his life, Peter hops on a plane to Benidorm to visit his expat brother. However, upon arrival at the resort, Peter discovers that his sibling is missing. Staying on to search for him, Peter comes to realise that the man he thought he knew had an entirely different life - and, after meeting the sultry exotic performer Alex (Sarita Choudhury), it's a life Peter starts to sink into himself. Despite its serious tone, It Snows in Benidorm is rather silly: the plot is stuffed with clunky burlesque shows, one-note supporting characters and unconvincing recreations of drunk Brits on hen nights. Luckily, Spall's earnest performance drowns out the daftness, and he receives solid support from Choudhury in a strange but gratifyingly complex role.
