Anthony Hopkins is the elderly, proud Englishman suffering memory loss and increasing confusion; Olivia Colman is the concerned daughter trying to balance parental love and care with her own life needs. Zeller's masterstroke is in conveying the experience of a disintegrating mind through distorted realities and dramatic shifts in perspective. The subtle visual tricks and thriller-like twists become a literal representation of the devastating illness. Meanwhile, the cast is perfection: Colman, Imogen Poots, Rufus Sewell, Olivia Williams and Mark Gatiss add superb nuance to Hopkins's paranoia.
